ROOT SINS AND FRUIT SINS (PART 2)
Great and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Lets pray.
Confess the following:
1)I receive spiritual wisdom and insight so that I
might grow in my knowledge of God.
2)My heart is flooded with light so that I can understand the confident hope God has given me.
3)I receive grace to understand the incredible greatness of God’s power packaged for me.
In Jesus’ name I pray Amen.
From the last post, the root sins are lust of the flesh(vanity), lust of the eyes(sensuality) and the pride of life.
Where does a man get all these from?
What is the ‘root’ of root of sin?
“His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”-John 9:2
“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”
Ephe 6:12 NLT
With these two scriptures above, there are 3 major ‘roots’ or sources of the 3 roots of sin.
1)CONGENITAL
2)ACQUIRED
3)INDUCED
CONGENITAL SINS
These are sins present from birth. From conception to embryo to fetus to neonatal period to infancy till now,the sins are already planted and rooted but the fruits only change their colouration as you grow up.David said:
“For I was born a sinner–yes, from the moment my mother conceived me” Psalm 51:5 NLT
“Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” KJV
Hence the disciples asked Jesus ‘who sinned?’ The man or his parents sinned?
Sins run in family!
Each generation passes it to the next in a refined flavour. Each generation can decide to deal with the bad seed or not.
If you are in doubt about this, lets study Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the Bible.
Abraham the father of Isaac lied:
“Now Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah”-Gen 20:2
Isaac the father of Jacob lied:
“When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he said, “She is my sister,” because he was afraid to say, “She is my wife.” He thought, “The men of this place might kill me on account of Rebekah, because she is beautiful Gen 26:7″
By the 3rd generation which was that of Jacob. This root of sin had become an institution such that Jacob had graduated from lying to being a confirmed fraudster right from the womb!
“After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau’s heel; so he was named Jacob.”-Gen 25:26.
‘He grasps his heel’ figuratively means ‘he deceives’.
QED.
ACQUIRED SINS
To acquire is to learn or develop (a skill, habit, or quality).
Acquired sins are learnt.Unlike congenital sins that may be genetic, acquired sins are influenced by the environment.
If a mother is going out to market and wants to leave her son(Junior) at home, she tells him: ‘See before I come back break all the glass cups and plates on that table ooo and if you like dont read your books’
The child is already being sensitised to good and evil. His eyes are getting opened like Eve to eat the forbidden fruit.
Then one day when mummy is not around he will want to go and touch the glass cups and see what mummy keeps inside. He climbs the table , slips and the cups/plates fall off and get broken.
Few minutes later mummy footsteps are heard outside. Junior has gone to hide! Mummy calls him but Junior answers his name faintly under the bed! Junior is severely beaten when his mum sees the broken cups/plates.But Junior has learnt a lesson.
What is the lesson? “When you break glasses like this, quickly pack the broken pieces, sweep them and hide them under the bed so that mummy will not know.If mummy even knows I tell her I am not the one!”
When Junior succeeds in all these and mummy does not ‘catch’ him ,he grows up,becomes a man and money is left in his custody to keep, same scenario will be replayed. The money will suddenly grow wings and ‘flown’ under the bed or carpet!
Habits both good and bad are mostly acquired.
The scenario I painted above is similar to what happened in the Garden of Eden.Their eyes were opened to see good and evil. Now this is the problem:It is not a bad idea to know good and evil but the issue is that by default you tend to do evil rather than good.
I heard a story some years back.A researcher wanted to know what influences a child behaviour more. The environment or the genetic predisposition of the child. So he put a baby and a baby monkey in a cage with a separation in between to avoid them injuring each other. After some time instead of the monkey to learn how the baby made sounds, cried and uttered monosyllables the reverse was the case. The child not only started making sounds like the monkey, but also started behaving like the monkey.Of course, that was the end of the research!
“For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do–this I keep on doing.”-Romans 7:19
INDUCED SINS
To induce is to be influenced,it is to succeed in persuading someone to do something.
These are sins one commits when under the influence of rulers, authorities, powers of this dark world and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm!-Eph 6:12
Just check their names out again. These are unseen forces you battle daily! These powers are not ‘beans’! They too were influenced and induced by the Devil to rebel against God.They were sent out of the presence of God into the earth. They in turn want to induce humans especially christians with sin.
Any sinful habit/sin that is induced by these spirits cant be stopped easily by behavioural modification alone.
Their first goal is to prevent us from receiving salvation. If that fails, they work at preventing Christian maturity.
This induction can be in form of temptation, obsession, oppression or even possession(unbelievers).
Higher powers are needed to break these chains.
As I round off this post,I want to share something fundamental about sin.Every sin(congenital, acquired or induced) has two components to it:
1)Desire to sin
2)Opportunity to sin
*Sometimes you might desire to sin but the opportunity may not be there .Good for you!
*Sometimes there is opportunity to sin but the desire may not be there. For example Joseph and Portiphar’s wife
*But on the day desires and opportunity collide/kiss each other…Sin might not be easy to overcome except with the help of God.
So you either deal with those sinful desires or close those doors of opportunities to sin.Avoid the two meeting each other.
Confess this prayerfully:
” I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself to me” Gal 2:20
I intend blogging exclusively on fruit sins in the next post before “Addiction and Sinful Habits”.
Grace be with you.
Remain blessed and rapturable.
