THE WARRANT OF FAITH

Have you ever been in a terrible situation and someone is asking you to just believe and have faith that things are going to be better? If yes, what does your faith rest on after you hear that word of encouragement?

The word of God is the warrant of our faith. It is what guarantees that our faith will/can work.Nothing else can give us a long -lasting/an eternal hope apart from God’s promises.

First, what is a warrant? It is a legal document that authorizes someone to do something, especially if it is signed by a judge or magistrate. It gives the police permission to arrest someone or search people’s houses.

Your faith needs the back up of the WORD OF GOD.It is the word of God that assures you that what you believe will come to pass.It is the legal document authorizing you to possess your possession.Your faith must draw strength from his firm promises or else such faith will collapse on the way.As a believer, your faith must rest on a solid foundation or else when some situations arise, doubts and fears may weaken your faith.

Many times our faith only rests on man’s promises ,our feelings, situations etc.All these cannot stand the test of times. But when our faith is resting on the promises of God,it can withstand the vicissitudes of life.

Let’s study a popular verse in the Bible to establish what I have said so far:

So then FAITH comes by HEARING, and hearing by the WORD OF GOD”  (Rom. 10:17).

If I put the synonyms of the word ‘come’,the verse will be better understood:

So then FAITH comes /is gotten/is acquired/is built up/ is possessed/is achieved by HEARING and HEARING comes/is gotten/is acquired/ by the WORD OF GOD.

Let’s focus on the highlighted words:

Faith‘,

Hearing

Word of God’

Which of them comes first? Can you arrange them sequentially? Is it:

a)Faith>>>>Hearing>>>>Word of God or

b)Word of God>>>>Hearing>>>>Faith ?

What is your answer?

It is option (b).

When the word of God is heard it builds your faith. In other words, your faith draws strength from the word of God.Halleluyah!

The word of God is like a rock,it is firm,it is infallible,it is not fickle. When your faith rests on it,you are likened to a wise man that builds his house on a rock.

Real faith draws strength from the word of God.

Real faith is an offshoot/extension of the promises of God.

Abraham’s faith, for example, rested on the promises of God.

Romans 4:18-21:

Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”vs 18

Against all human calculations, against the tinniest ray of hope,Abraham drew strength from the real faith that rested on God’s promise from Gen 15:5: He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”

That was the promise/word of God that kept Abraham through those years of waiting.

“Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead–since he was about a hundred years old–and that Sarah’s womb was also dead”vs19

“Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God “vs 20

The next verse is very explicit about why Abraham’s faith was firm:

“being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”vs 21

Halleluyah!!!

He had confidence in the efficacy of the word of God.Praise God.

His faith was resting on the word of God that would never return to God void! When the word is released by God,it must accomplish what it is sent to do! Halleluyah.

What is your faith resting on?

Man’s promises? They fail.

Men’s words? They fail.

Your feelings? They can’t be trusted.

Your political parties? The answer to that is obvious around you!

GOD’S WORDS/HIS PROMISES? I CAN BOLDLY ASSURE YOU THAT THEY CANNOT FAIL YOU!

For God is not a man, that he should lie,He is not a human being, that he should change his mind.Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?

Praise God!

Search the promises of God for your life in His words.Pay attention to what He promises you through vision and His servants and have absolute confidence in the infallibility of His words.

He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it-1Thess 5:24(HCSB)

The one who calls you is faithful, and he will continue to be faithful.(ISB)

Let me round off with this song:

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,

When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,

By the living Word of God I shall prevail,

Standing on the promises of God

Refrain:
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

Halleluyah!!!

Stay blessed.

  1. Tope, you are unique and blunt in saying the truth. That is what this age we are requires >> to those who will submit to the word of truth with all enthusiasm.
Thank you for this revealing truth. The source where you draw all these will not run dry in the name of JESUS CHRIST.
