OPEN THE EYES OF MY HEART LORD!

Open the eyes of my heart Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You

To see You high and lifted up
Shining in the light of Your glory
Pour out Your power and love
As we sing holy holy holy

Holy holy holy
Holy holy holy
Holy holy holy
I want to see You

With this song written by Paul Baloche,I welcome you to the concluding part of the series:Spiritual blindness.

From the lyrics of the song above, one can note that the spiritual blindness we have been talking about is not about the physical eyes!

To be blind  spiritually means the “eyes of the heart” is darkened, veiled, plucked out, made dull. Apostle Paul understood this when he prayed earnestly for the Ephesian church this way:

“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know …”-Ephe 1:18a.

Enlightenment of your heart’s eyes precedes knowledge! Many of us want to know about our future,we want to know who to marry, the job to do etc.Stop searching for knowledge first! Be enlightened in your mind! Get your sight back first then your search becomes easier.

Who gives this enlightenment? Who restores the sight for the blind? Who shines His light on our darkened mind?

a)God is the primary giver of sight to the blind: “The Lord gives sight to the blind…”-Psalm 146:8a

To demonstrate this,He came in human flesh to prove this physically and spiritually.

b)Secondarily,He sends His servants to also open the eyes of the blind.Jesus personally commissioned Apostle Paul to go and open the eyes of the blind:

I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me... I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light”-Act 26:16-17.

How does God bring about the restoration of sight to the blind?

1)He shines His light into the darkness of your heart. He makes light out of the darkness and flashes the light on the eyes of your heart:

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ’-2 Cor 4:6.

The same thing God did during the Recreation of the World,He also does during the New Birth! He calls forth the light out of darkness.

Do you want to know the intensity of the light that God  shines on you ? I had to check more than 20 bible translations of the above verse to get that!

“For God who said, “Out of darkness let light shine,” is He who has shone in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory, which is radiant on the face of Christ.(Weymouth New Testament)

I want you to just read the highlighted words together and  ‘catch’ the Rhema: The light that is shone on our heart is of the same intensity with the radiance on the face of Christ.Halleluyah!

Do you want this light to illuminate your mind? Pray  now that God should shine His light on the eyes of your heart…You can sing this song again:”Open the eyes of my heart Lord” etc

2)He speaks His words into your heart. If you can still remember, one major characteristic of spiritual blindness we studied in Part 3 was lack of understanding of God’s word.

When God wants to heal you of spiritual blindness,He sends forth not just His word but an in-depth understanding of it.

Psalm 119:130:

The unfolding of your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple.(NIV)

The disclosure of your words illuminates, providing understanding to the simple.(ISV)

Your word is a doorway that lets in light, and it helps gullible people understand. (GWT)

The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand.(NLT)

The revelation of Your words brings light and gives understanding to the inexperienced.(HCSB)

1)When His documented(sealed) words are unfolded before us like the Ethiopian eunuch, our blindness disappears.

2)When the secrets of the Kingdom are disclosed to us like the disciples of Christ, our sight is restored.

3)When the door of our heart is open,Christ comes in with His light and darkness disappears.

4)When we receive teachings from His servants who are conduits through which His light shines, our hearts are enlightened.

5)When the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, gives us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that we may know him better…the eyes of our heart becomes enlightened in order that we may know the hope to which he has called us and the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people…

We receive our sight back in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

Stay blessed.
