God is a Spirit…He does not have hands, eyes, ears, head etc. Yes!

Before some folks will accuse me of teaching heresy, let me quickly explain myself…

Anthropomorphic expressions are symbolic descriptions of God that make Him real to us.

These figures of speech are used when we want to attribute certain human characteristics to God.For example:

“For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him.”

The ‘eye’ as organ of  sight in human is here used to describe how God protects the blameless heart. This does not mean God has the same eyes like us if He does that would have been disastrous because every human being sleeps .So what happens to the ‘ ‘blameless’ if God sleeps with His eyes closed?

Conversely, there are times certain God’s traits are attributed to human as well e.g Holiness of God.

“Be holy, just as your Father in heaven is holy”.

The topic of our discussion “The hand of God” is a form of anthropomorphism.I want you to read how Prophet Ezekiel described God’s hands:

“He reached out what seemed to be a hand and took me by the hair. Then the Spirit lifted me up into the sky and transported me to Jerusalem in a vision from God.”-Eze 8:3

It only ‘seemed’ to be like a human hand  because the  functions resemble that of a human hand.

So to understand the mighty things God’s hands can do we need to look at the limited functions human hands perform.

Lets look at some of the functions of the human hands that Scriptures attribute to God.

FUNCTIONS OF THE HUMAN HANDS

1)The hands are used to hide something away from others:  In the same way we keep something hidden in our hands, the Bible says our lives can be hidden like that in God’s hands:

“He made my mouth like a sharp sword, he hid me in the hollow of his hand; he made me like a sharpened arrow, he hid me in his quiver.”-Isaiah 49:2

I am safe, whatever may betide me;
I am safe who ever may deride me;
I am safe, as long as I confide me
In the hollow of God’s hand.

Refrain:
In the blessed hollow of his hand!
In the blessed hollow of his hand!
I am safe while God himself doth hold me
In the blessed hollow of his hand!

Halleluyah…Can you see the reason a believer can rest assured of his/her safety? Our lives are hidden in the hollow of God’s hands.

2)The hands are used to work in order to provide for our needs:Apostle Paul boasted about his hands:

“You know that these hands of mine have worked to supply my own needs and even the needs of those who were with me.”-Act 20:34

In the same way,God’s hands can work in us to provide for our needs. For example,God’s hand was on Nehemiah such that when he asked for timbers from a heathen king to build the Temple,he was granted:

And may I have a letter to Asaph, keeper of the royal park, so he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple and for the city wall and for the residence I will occupy?” And because the gracious hand of my God was on me, the king granted my requests.

It is sad how we struggle today to make ends meet because the hands of God are not upon us!Some even use human manipulations to get favour but Nehemiah only relied on the hands of God.

Please pause for some minutes…Pray in the Holy Ghost…Ask for the hands of God upon your life, business, academics, relationship etc.

3)To unite people together,we need the hands! Joining hands is a symbolic representation of unity.Marriages are conducted by joining couples’ hands together. We pray sometimes by joining hands together to show unity of the spirit.

However, there is a limit to the effectiveness of human joining hands together as evidenced by many divorce cases and interdenominational divisions.

But when God’s hand is upon us,there is a big difference:

Also in Judah the hand of God was on the people to give them unity of mind to carry out what the king and his officials had ordered, following the word of the LORD.And there assembled at Jerusalem much people to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second month, a very great congregation”-2Chron 30:12-13

God help me to teach this!!!

Do you see the reason there are so many divisions going on in marriages and even churches? Can you now see the reason some leaders struggle to provide leadership to their congregation? It is due to lack of the hands of God upon them.

While ruminating over this point, this was impressed in my heart: The hands of God connect, join or link you with others you never thought you could ever meet.

Stop looking for human connections, they only work when God’s hands already connect you! The heart of the person you are manipulating to get is in the hands of God and he can unite the two of you together!

4)The hands are used to write: Do we have instances where God’s hands wrote like human beings? Yes! Two examples came to mind, let me see whether you can guess them:

In the first,God’s handwriting on a wall was followed by  judgement and the event happened in the Old Testament. The second example occured in the New Testament,God in man  wrote on a ground, though nobody knew what he scribbled, but mercy triumphed over judgement!

I dont know the negative thing that has been written concerning you,God’s hands are erasing them today and it is now written concerning you:”See what God has done”. The hands of God are rewriting every detail of your life to conform to His will in Jesus’ name.Amen.

5)The hands are placed on someone’s head for transfer of power/office: People are anointed for God’s work by the laying of hands.Apostle Paul even warned Timothy against indiscriminate laying on of hands:

Do not be too quick in the laying on of hands and thereby share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.”-1Tim 5:22

There is a greater pursuit for anyone that wants to serve God: Seek God’s hands for anointing and empowerment.

Goya/Olive oil will become dry on your head at most 30minutes after you are ordained, but God’s oil is ever new and fresh every day and cannot run dry. When God puts His hands upon the head of a man, there is an empowerment to function in the capacity he/she has been called. The early  disciples enjoyed this grace:

The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord”-Act 11:21

6)Lastly,the hands are used for lifting: When someone falls down, you used the hand to hold and lift the person up.God’s hands can symbolically lift us up from the miry clay to seat us with the princes.

For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up.But God is the Judge; He puts down one and exalts another-Psalm 75:6-7

I pray that…

You are lifted…

You are empowered…

You are protected…

Your needs are provided for…

And you are connected because

It is written that the HANDS OF GOD ARE UPON YOU.

Stay blessed.
