Prophet Jeremiah lived in a period where the scribes that were given the responsibility of copying the laws of God were deliberately perverting the manuscripts! They were, in the process of transcribing, inserting errors into the Torah intentionally thereby misleading the public who then didn’t have access to the Book of the Law.
Why were they doing this?
The scribes usurped the privilege given to them to make the Torah favour themselves.
Nevertheless, God through Jeremiah Chapter 8 warned the unsuspecting Jews succinctly:
“‘How can you say, “We are wise,
for we have the law of the Lord,”
when actually the lying pen of the scribes
has handled it falsely?”‘
Unlike the Jews above,we all have access to the Torah,Prophets and the New Testament.Majority now can read the Scriptures and copies of the Bible are no longer the exclusive ownership of certain leaders.
We are the modern scribes!
However, the question I should ask myself is:
Am I changing or altering the Word like those scribes did or the Word is changing me?
Think about this!
