Succinctly, Jesus is a person.Christ is not! ‘Jesus’ is a name.’Christ’ is a descriptive term!
For example, Isaiah, the Prophet means that ‘The Prophet’ is describing who Isaiah is.Similarly, ‘Christ’ tells us who Jesus is.
The word ‘Christ’ is from the Greek word ‘Christos’ which means ‘one who has been anointed ‘ or ‘has been touched by the hands of God’.
In the New Testament,it is true that Jesus is the only person who is referred to as ‘Christos’ but the experience of the ‘anointing by the Holy Spirit'(which is ‘Christos’) is applied to others. This can be seen being symbolically written as :
“But we have the mind of Christ“
“…until Christ is formed in you!“
‘If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation”
‘Christ’ is actually a concept that is mysterious!
“…the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
When this ‘Christ’ was being formed in some people a long time ago, those that saw them gave a descriptive term to explain what they saw:
“It was at Antioch that the believers were first called Christians“.
An author,Michael Bowes, puts it this way:
“‘Christ’ is the real and conscious experience of the Power of the Supreme ,which reveals our true nature and identity and provides a new source of power through which we may live our lives…The ‘Christ’ is a condition we enter into through the baptism of the Holy Spirit”.
So,’Christ’ denotes: ‘Being born again’, ‘being transformed’, ‘being anointed by the Holy Spirit’ ,’being empowered from High’
Christ is a condition you enter into which brings out the God’s identity in you and also empowers you to live a life pleasing to God.
“…until Christ is formed in you!“
