Actions vs Motives

Actions are quite obvious but the motives behind them which are hidden are more important than the actions.

As I finished typing this,a Scripture I had found very difficult to understand till now was revealed to me in line with the above point.

“And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.”

To be sincere,I had no idea how one could give all he possessed to the poor and even burnt himself and yet did all that without love.

Now I understood what Apostle Paul was talking about: Actions and motives.

The actions are the gifts to the poor(philanthropy) and burning of the body(martyrdom) which are very obvious for all to see.But the motives can either be love or egocentric/’herocentric'(my coinage!)

Apostle Paul says if he does all these with selfish motive,it profits him nothing.

“It is not about what you do,but how much love you put into what you do that counts.”- Mother Theresa.
