The birth of Joseph was miraculous:

“Then God remembered Rachel,and God listened to her and opened her womb.And she conceived and bore a son, and said, “God has taken away my reproach.” So she called his name Joseph, and said, “The LORD shall add to me another son.”- Gen 30:22-24

His name was prophetic:

“The LORD shall add to me another son.”

Did the Lord bring it to pass? Yes…Rachel gave birth to Benjamin afterwards.

With that background,Jacob’s prophecy concerning Joseph went like this:

“Joseph is a fruitful vine—a fruitful vine by a spring, whose branches scale the wall.”-Gen 49:22.

Truly,he was fruitful in Egypt in all ramifications.

Jacob continued:

“The archers attacked him with bitterness; they aimed at him in hostility.Yet he steadied his bow, and his strong arms were tempered by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, in the name of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel”-Gen 49:23-24(BSV)

The archers symbolised Joseph’s brothers, Potiphar’s wife,and all the afflictions he went through between Canaan and Egypt.

To ‘steady his bow’ is referring to his strong moral character in the midst of all these afflictions.This is in sharp contrast to Reuben,the firstborn,who is described as “unstable as water”.

However,the prophecy also highlighted where Joseph’s strength came from:The Hands of the Mighty God of Jacob

Action:

1)Pray to bear more fruit:

“For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God”-Col 1:9-10

2)Draw your strength from God:

“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being”-Ephe 3:16
