Why Solomon said life and death are in the power of the tongue…(1)
There is a myth in ancient Israel that illustrated why Solomon said this:
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”–Prov 18:21
Let’s go to the book “Ancient Israel” and read the story behind this Solomon’s saying:
“There was once a King of Persia who fell very ill, suffering from consumption. The physicians who were treating him told him that there was only one way to save the King. His disease could be cured only by the milk of a lioness, and the King would surely become well again if he were to drink such milk. Thereupon the King of Persia sent his physician to King Solomon, who was reputed for his great wisdom, and begged him to help him obtain lion’s milk.
Solomon sent for his faithful chancellor Benaiah and gave him instructions to obtain lion’s milk. Benaiah knew a lion’s den in the neighbourhood of Jerusalem, and thither he re-paired with his servants, taking with them ten young kids. Every day he threw a young kid to the lioness, and each time he came a little nearer to the den, until on the tenth day he became quite familiar with the beast and could play with her.
Thereupon he came quite close to her, touched her udders, and then drew some milk. He returned to Solomon and handed the lioness’s milk to the foreign physician, who went away well content to have succeeded in his errand…”
